Kagome Higurashi

Kagome Higurashi (日暮かごめ) is a fictional character in InuYasha, a television anime series shown in Japan, the United States, and elsewhere.

She is a the granddaughter of the owner of Higurashi shrine near Tokyo. On her fifteenth birthday, she was pulled into a well by a centipede youkai and was pulled into feudal Japan, specifically the Sengoku Jidai period. In the past, she finds what seems to be a sleeping hanyou that had pinned to a tree by an arrow. She wandered into the nearby village and was met by the priestess Kaede of the village, since Kagome bore an uncanny resemblance to her long dead sister, Kikyou.

That night, the centipede youkai attacked again and Kagome fled into the forest where the hanyou was pinned, but this time he was awake and calling her "Kikyo". As the centipede gained and the villagers fought unsuccessfully, Kagome was injured and a jewel flew out of her wound and was devoured by the centipede. Inuyasha, the hanyou, then asked Kagome to remove the arrow so that he could recover the jewel. She did so, and Inuyasha defeated the youkai, but then he demanded that she hand over the jewel to him, for it was the Shikon no Tama or the Jewel of Four Souls that has the power to grant anything that the user desires if it is used.

As he advanced, Kaede cast an enchantment that bound Inuyasha such that whenever Kagome shouted the magic word ("sit" in English, お座り in Japanese), he would instantly be forced to the ground. The next day, a crow youkai attacked and swallowed the Jewel and Kagome and Inuyasha went to retrieve it. In the battle, Kagome shot an arrow at the crow, which had its foot attached so that it would be drawn toward it. The arrow struck and shattered the Jewel into many shards that were scattered across the world.

Inuyasha and Kagome then set out to recover the shards so that other youkai could not use it for malice, occasionally returning to the modern era for supplies or because she and Inuyasha get angry at each other.
